Cumbancha Signs Sergent Garcia

Raggasalsa superstar Sergent Garcia has signed an exclusive worldwide deal with Cumbancha, who will release the next album by the French/Spanish artist in the first half of 2011. Sergent Garcia mixes Jamaican reggae and ragamuffin, Cuban son, high-powered salsa grooves, funk and soul into a powerful mix that has made him one of the most popular figures in the international mestizo music scene. After releasing five albums through major label EMI, selling hundreds of thousands of records and performing on some of the world’s biggest stages, we at Cumbancha are humbled and honored that an artist of such renown would choose us to be his label home.

The new album, which is still in production, was recorded largely in Colombia and features a number of guest artists from that country’s thriving music scene. Liliana Saumet from the electro tropical band Bomba Estéreo makes an appearance, as does Erika Munõz, the lead singer for Sidestepper and many others. Cumbancha founder Jacob Edgar was just in Paris to sign the contracts and celebrate with the band over many glasses of Cuban rum and a box of Cuban cigars.
